'ROUTE 66' Run May 09
Yogi’s planned Route 66 run from California to New York in part following the coast road from Caister to Hunstanton
took place last Saturday, 25th April. And what a hugely successful day it was! Yogi and Badges met
up with Double O at Colchester and then went on to a café outside Ipswich to be joined by
Pimpernel on his magnificent Rune and Terry riding a very handsome Suzuki 1400.
The five of us then headed towards Pug and Tinkerbell’s
house in Caister pausing on the way to join up with Morph on his Honda. We’re a broad church here in the Anglia Region!
At Pug’s place we found, in addition to Pug n Tinkerbell of course, Steve S. and
his 800, Jools with his Meanstreak and Noel riding Honda off-road type of bike (sorry I don’t know the model name).
What we also found was lots of bacon rolls, tea and coffee all provided by Pug n Tinkerbell. A big THANK YOU to both
of them for that; it was a superb way to start a fairly lengthy ride. And a lengthy ride it was – Badges clocked
up over four hundred miles whilst the rest of us managed something over three hundred.
Anyway the weather was extremely kind with wall to wall sunshine throughout the day except
for a silly few minutes at Hunstanton during a stop for fish n chips when the sky clouded over and one or two drops of rain
landed on our bikes. But the clouds passed over and out came the sun again.
Pug guided us to California
where we took a few photos and then led us along the narrow, twisty coast road through attractive villages to Sheringham where
we stopped for a drink. Then it was on again along more narrow, twisty roads to Hunstanton. At some point after
that Yogi took the lead and we eventually left Norfolk and went into Lincolnshire
and ended at New York and more photos were taken.
A short trip to a Little Chef and there we began to split up to make our different ways home. It was a great ride and
thoroughly enjoyed by everybody and, once again, many thanks to members from Anglia, Norfolk and guests who turned out and
made the day such a success.
